Supervision toward advanced licensure for Texas social workers
LCSW, LMSW-I, LMSW-AP, and AMEC supervision

Sandra has been a Board Approved Supervisor in 3 states:  Louisiana, Idaho, and Texas. She provides guidance from the development of a supervision plan through the final stage of exam preparation.  She also will be your best cheerleader!

What is supervision like?
In the literature, supervision is described as collaborative, traditional, and educational.  During the first year, supervisees present cases they are working on and receive instruction, feedback, and assistance to facilitate their skill development and knowledge.  They also receive assistance and feedback regarding any workplace concerns or ethical issues that arise.  Supervisees learn about themselves and the ways in which their personalities and backgrounds might effect their practice.

During the second year of supervision, supervisees typically become more confident in practice, and supervision begins to focus more on preparing for the exam and attaining professional goals.

Location of supervision:
Sandra has an office in the very entry of her home where she conducts supervision.  She has a large dog, Roxie, who participates in your welcome and then sleeps happily during supervision. Please consider your comfort level with animals before contacting Sandra for supervision services.

Because supervision is offered at her home address, Sandra expects a high degree of professionalism in respect of that fact.
Steps in becoming Sandra's supervisee:
  • Contact Sandra either utilizing the contact form on this website or the contact information provided on the "contact" page.
  • Sandra will review your job description to determine the "clinical" content of your job.  She will then be able to make recommendations.  Many who have non-clinical positions are still able to work toward their licensure with a supplemental plan.
  • Sandra will make an appointment with you to create your supervision plan and, if necessary, your supplemental supervision plan.  She will advise you about submission of the plan to the Texas Board, and she will help to navigate board approval.  Supervision can begin at the initial appointment, as Board approval is retroactive.

FAQS:
  • Individual vs Group Supervision
Sandra will not lead large groups in supervision.  Supervision is a very important process. In Sandra's opinion, only individual and small-group methods of supervision are sufficiently impactful and educational.  Therefore, Sandra will consider supervising social workers in groups of no more than two individuals with similar work experience.  The Texas Board requires at least one individual meeting a month with your supervisor, so you will need to consider that occasional individual meetings will occur.
  • Appointments & Supervision Schedule
Sandra makes appointments with supervisees every two weeks for two hours of supervision, per appointment.  If an appointment is missed, it can be rescheduled on an off-week.  This ensures that a supervisee gets the required minimum of 4 hours of supervision per month required by the Board, and that supervisees finish by the two-year required minimum.
  • Philosophy
Sandra has been a practitioner and an educator and a supervisor for a long time.  She has been a social worker since before social workers had proved their skill, knowledge, and value as a profession within many modern areas of social work.  She is committed to maintaining social work's good reputation among other professionals.  She supervises with the intent to ensure you will:
  • Be able to serve your clients excellently and independently, ethically, and with passion for their improvement
  • Continue to improve the reputation of social workers as invaluable to the human condition in our society and in every agency
  • Ethically improve conditions in multi-disciplinary settings so that all are positively effected including the social work element
  • Be able to practice clinical social work independently, without supervision whether in private practice or another setting and do so well.

Fees:
Currently, Sandra charges $60 per hour for individual supervision and $45 per hour for group supervision.  She provides an invoice at the end of each month and expects payment at that time by check or credit card.
